Morning Aikido

For all those, who want to do some benefit to their bodies even before the day becomes busy, we offer a special matutinal training, called “morning aikido”. This training aims at the agility of body and mind rather than at the performance of a strict form or technique. Everybody shall be able to attend to it. Age or restricted mobility are no hindrance, as there is no necessity for techniques and falling.

If you want to awaken your Qi in the morning, you do not necessarily need throws and arm levers. Indeed, when the Qi starts to flow, appropriate techniques may ensue spontaneously. Matutinal practice is meant to prepare us for the challenges the day might bring with it. Training partners shall help each other this regarding. The body is to be stretched, articulations are to be “oiled“, and the mind shall unfold its conciousness inside both the inner and outer space. As natural and spontaneous breathing is one source of Qi, morning aikido also explores the connection between breath and motion.

New Morning Aikido class for beginners in Berlin, Prenzlauer Berg starting at 13.01.2010. For details see Einsteigerkurse.

The matutinal training is guided by Mikael Erikson (3d Dan Aikikai Tokyo). Mikael comments:

"As I have always considered myself as someone who is practicing, my matutinal training aims at the agility of body and mind rather than at the performance of a technique. I feel that the technique should not be more powerful than the attack. This means that rolls and throws only come into being when there is enough power for them.”"

Mikael Erikson practices aikido since 1972.
